Anne, a talented Dominican-American filmmaker and multimedia artist, has been honored as the winner of our 2025 Open Call for Art focusing on Immigrant History, Culture, and Experience for her poignant work, Sion Papi.

This animated documentary tells the heartfelt story of Anne's personal quest as she returns her father's ashes to his native land—a place she has not visited in sixteen years. Throughout this two-month journey, she uncovers the essence of her father’s life during his years in the Dominican Republic, forging a deeper connection with her roots.

Sion Papi unfolds as a beautiful personal essay in stop-motion; it's an intimate reflection on storytelling across generations, the process of reconnection, and the path to healing. 💖
