About the Lecture
During the Civil War, brave men from Washington-on-the-Brazos were part of Company E of the Fifth Texas Infantry, famously known as the Dixie Blues. They served in Hood's Texas Brigade, participating in numerous pivotal battles under the esteemed command of Robert E. Lee. Their hometown, however, faced significant challenges during this tumultuous time, leading to a long-term decline.
About the Speaker
Dr. Richard B. McCaslin, appointed as the Texas State Historian in 2025, is a highly regarded expert in Texas history. He is the retired TSHA Professor at the University of North Texas and has authored over twenty-one award-winning books, including Lee in the Shadow of Washington. His accolades include several prestigious awards and commendations from Civil War Round Tables.
