🌟 Open Call for Creative Residencies! 🌟

Works & Process, an esteemed non-profit organization dedicated to supporting artists in their creative journeys from studio to stage, is thrilled to announce an open application period for week-long residencies aimed at NYC-based choreographers and dance companies.

Each year, Works & Process facilitates over 25 creative residencies through a network of partner venues across five states. Starting in 2025, artists and projects will be selected through an open call process, allowing for a fresh influx of innovative ideas.

Residency support encompasses the entirety of a project’s lifecycle—from initial explorations in the studio to final rehearsals before a premiere, and even touring thereafter. With a strong focus on nurturing the creative process and fostering collaboration across the arts ecosystem, these residencies provide artists with the essential resources they need to thrive. To date, Works & Process has organized 100+ residencies, aiding over 700 artists and supporting works honored with Bessie Awards, National Dance Project grants, and internationally recognized performances.

The residencies cater to groups of up to eight artists, offering a generous fee of $175 per day ($1,225 per week). Additional benefits include 24/7 studio access, on-site housing, a travel stipend, and eligibility for health insurance enrollment. Awarded residencies will take place between October 2026 and May 2027 and can be utilized for launching new projects or further developing existing ones.

📅 Key Dates:

  • Application Period: March 24 - April 21, 2026, by 5 PM EST (or until the submission limit of 300 applications is reached)
  • Notification of Awarded Residencies: June 30, 2026

🎭 Testimonials from Past Residents:

“One of the true highlights of the residency was having the dancers live together in the house that was provided for them. This created a wonderfully collaborative environment and allowed them to build deeper connections with one another outside the studio.” — Kotoe Kojima-Noa, Artistic Coordinator, NJ Ballet

“I LOVED having the whole day, from morning to night to think and work in different modes. I started the morning conditioning my body, spent the afternoon rehearsing relentlessly with the dancers, and closed the evening working on lighting design, editing audio/video, and having some quality time with the company members.” — Sun Kim, Director/Choreographer of Sun Kim Dance Theatre

“It felt like a week in paradise, and the dancers and I will remember it for a very long time!” — Miro Magliore, Artistic Director of New Chamber Ballet
