🎤 About The Smithereens

Since their inception in 1980 in Carteret, New Jersey, The Smithereens have solidified their status as one of America’s most enduring rock bands. With founding members Pat DiNizio, Jim Babjak, Mike Mesaros, and Dennis Diken, they crafted a unique sound that blends the melodic essence of the British Invasion with the raw energy of American garage rock.

Their breakthrough came in 1986 with the album Especially for You, featuring iconic tracks like “Blood and Roses” and “Behind the Wall of Sleep.” The band's acclaim continued with Green Thoughts (1988) and 11 (1989), which produced numerous hits including “Only a Memory” and “A Girl Like You.”

Having made waves on MTV and mainstream radio, The Smithereens have shared the stage with legends like Tom Petty and Lou Reed. Their live performances are celebrated for their energy and authenticity. After the passing of Pat DiNizio in 2017, the band honored his legacy by continuing to perform with talented guest vocalists like John Cowsill.
