🎹 About the Music:
César Franck (1822–1890) was a Belgian-born composer, organist, and teacher who played a pivotal role in the French music scene during the latter half of the 19th century. One of Franck's most significant works for the organ, Grande Pièce Symphonique, treats the instrument as a full orchestra. Composed for the Cavaillé-Coll organ at Sainte-Clotilde, this piece is dedicated to Franck's friend Charles-Valentin Alkan. With Grande Pièce Symphonique, Franck paved the way for organ symphonies, inspiring successors like Louis Vierne and Charles-Marie Widor, and creating a masterpiece in the French romantic organ tradition.
