Join us for a comprehensive Advanced Navigation Skills Training session in the picturesque Edale! 🗺️

What to Expect:
Building on the foundational skills learned in our Beginners course, this training features a classroom presentation followed by practical navigation exercises on a short walk around the beautiful Edale area. You will gain confidence in navigating with a map and compass, covering topics such as:
- Understanding the key features of a compass
- Completing route cards using 6-figure grid references
- Differentiating between various North points
- Interpreting map symbols
- Taking and walking on a bearing
- Utilizing pacing and timing techniques, including Naismith's Rule
Terrain & Grade:
- Event Terrain: Short sections along the road with predominantly good, well-drained footpaths across fields, plus one section over rough terrain and an ascent.
- Event Grade: Moderate - suitable for walkers with experience on slightly uneven ground.
What to Bring:
- OS Explorer map (1:25,000) OL1 The Peak District Dark Peak Area
- Silva Expedition compass or similar
- Pen or pencil

Parking:
Parking can be challenging in Edale at peak times with no parking available at the Moorland Centre. However, a P+D car park near Edale Station offers cash parking. From there, walk 200 yards under the rail bridge into Edale Village. Nearby farmers are also providing overspill parking in their fields. There are toilets available at the P&D car park, but none at the Moorland Centre.
Public Transport:
- Bus Route: Yes, High Peak bus 62 connects Edale to Castleton, Hope, and Buxton.
- Rail Station: Edale Rail Station is accessible on the Manchester-Sheffield line. From the station, turn left and walk 200 yards towards the Moorland Centre.
Additional Notes:
- Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed at this event. 🐕❌
