📖 About the Book

Discover how the American Revolution caused deep divisions among families and communities on Long Island. The Battle of Long Island in August 1776 marked the beginning of a seven-year British occupation, leading to loyalty oaths, property confiscation, and soldiers being quartered in homes. Many who opposed the British faced imprisonment aboard prison ships in Wallabout Bay, where eleven thousand met tragic ends due to disease and starvation. Meanwhile, courageous acts of sabotage and espionage emerged, highlighted by Washington's legendary Culper Spy Ring operating in areas like Oyster Bay and Setauket, tracking British activities.
